Isabel lay on her on her bed, the song on repeat, her head on her knees, lost in thought. She'd killed Whitaker. And once upon a lifetime she had been responsible for the downfall of an entire planet. Her family, the throne, the entire fate of Antar had been decided when she had agreed to help Kivar.

So long ago I lost my soul to some forgotten dream.

The words rang out from the speakers and into her mind like lightning, striking her down just as hot. How could she have done that? Betrayed her whole family, her people. She didn't even remember this man, Kivar. Nothing. No traces or hints of her past life dare reveal themselves. Maybe Isabel wouldn't let it. Perhaps fear of who she was pushed any memory away. She didn't want to be that person.

But, how was I supposed to know it wasn't what it seemed?

Was Whitaker lying? Is it possible that she was simply saying that to win Isabel, one of last of Antar's royals, to her side? Even as she thought the words, the truth fought for attention. No. Whitaker was honest about that. If nothing else, than about this great love she supposedly had. Kivar. Over and again the name resounded, vibrating through her essence, longing to be understood. Was it possible to love someone that much? Enough to turn your back on everything you knew? Everyone you cared for?

And even though the last hello has left me on the floor

If their love was so deep, so true, why had he let her die? Why hadn't he come for her now? And why did her family allow her to be reborn on Earth if she'd betrayed them all. Nothing made sense. Her head began to throb nearly in time with the beat. So much had hit her all at once. Who was-
"Isabel!" Her mother called from the kitchen, breaking her reverie.
"I'll be right there!" She returned, unfolding her legs and standing up.

The real question was, did it matter? This was her life now, this was who she was. Not Vilandra, not a princess and traitor. Isabel Evans. She had another chance at life and nothing, not her past, not her biology, not even her heart would destroy her this time.

As she strode out the door, just before she raised her hand to shut off the music, the final notes sounded.
